ENZO: This is Enzo F. Cesario with another edition of the Brandsplat video report. Hey, Ben. How are you doing?
BEN: Very good. How are you?
ENZO: I'm doing great. How was Miami?
BEN: Miami was a lot of fun.
ENZO: Good. Did you bring home a bunch of clients for us.
BEN: No. Just some T-shirts for the kids.
ENZO: Yessss! Awesome! Brandsplat does not live another day. (He laughs.) I'd like to talk a little bit about what was happening with Groupon last week after their failed Superbowl ad that everybody was complaining about, and how they used their blog to communicate how kind of – sort of – sorry they were about it.
BEN: Kinda sorta...
ENZO: Yeah. Either apologize or don't. I just want to read a little except from it: “To those who were offended, I feel terrible that we made you feel bad.” This is coming from the CEO. “While we've always been a little quirky, we certainly aren't trying to be the kind of company that builds its brand on creating controversy --” Why not?! (Ben laughs.) What are you gonna build your brand on, your product? (Ben laughs again.) God! I also want to talk about...
BEN: That was a blog. That was not a press release.
ENZO: That was a blog. Companies are using their blogs to talk to the public these days.
BEN: Better than paper.
ENZO: Paper. A thing of the past. I also want to talk about the role of Facebook on ousting Mubarak.
BEN: Gone.
ENZO: Yeah. Completely gone. Isn't that cool?
BEN: Maybe he can get a job at Facebook.
ENZO: Yeah. Or Twitter or something. Can you imagine?
BEN: (laughing) “What I'm doing today...”
ENZO: Him and Ashton are gonna go head to head. (They laugh.) Anyway, social media is huge. It's changing the world. Good job, Mark Zuckerberg.
BEN: Or his twin pals.
ENZO: Oh yeah. Or his twin pals. I also want to talk a little bit about Google TV. Unplug your cable or your satellite and get Google TV. You can get a lot of cool, free programming on the web. You just have to buy the box. The one caveat: you don't really get things like Hulu. Hulu is blocked, but what's to stop someone from just plugging in there laptop to their flatscreen. Then they'll get everything: Yahoo TV, Google TV, Lycos TV.
BEN: Lycos?
ENZO: That's an old one, right? AOL TV. Wait. They're still around. Enzo F. Cesario. See you next time.
