Hi. This is Enzo F. Cesario in the Brandsplat bunker here in Los Angeles, California. How are you doing today, Ben?
BEN (behind the camera): I'm doing very well, sir.
ENZO: AWESOME! Everybody's talking about Twitter and advertising and how they're... STOP! Everyone just stop. They've always been advertising on Twitter; you just didn't know it. For example, there's this article in the L.A. Times recently and they're talking about people that tweet, like these web-lebrities that have these huge followings. And they'll tweet about something, like “Go check out this movie, it's great!” and they're getting paid by the movie company. That's advertising. You just didn't know it. Now you know it. Now they're letting you know that you're being advertised to. I think that's fresh. I think that's good. And now you can stop pulling the veil over our faces. What's that term, Ben, stop pulling the.... WOOL!
BEN: Stop pulling the wool over your eyes.
ENZO: The wool over the eyes! On the Onion, for example, this is great, they do news, you know, real news.
BEN: That's what THEY say.
ENZO: And they talk to people about what they think. And look at these real people they spoke to. Here's Nick McDonald who's a roll thread operator. That's a...
BEN: I always wanted to be a roll thread operator.
ENZO: Me too. The pay (he whistles). “This is terrible! Now Twitter will be overrun with all kinds of useless, annoying messages.” (He laughs.) That's awesome. Here's another one: Frank Thompson, who is an autism aid, and those are hard to come by too, “I was wary at first, but Sabra hummus really is offering a great deal to anyone who searches the #IranProtest hashtag.” I tend to agree with him and, oh, by the way, Ben, did you realize that “The Make Your Own Hummus Road Tour” is happening soon? Did you know that?
BEN: How much are you getting paid to say that?
ENZO: Well, I'll let you know that it's happening in New York, New York on June 29th. Sabra Hummus is putting on a road tour in Union Square Park South.
BEN: I'm there.
ENZO: Keep following me. Follow me on Twitter at Brandsplatter.
(Enzo and Ben laugh.)
ENZO: Am I being paid for that? You'll never know. (Ben laughs.) SABRA. Sabra Hummus, eat it. It's tasty. Available at Ralph's. What else? What's my last story? I want to talk about... for the last story I want to talk about having a really good idea and not necessarily having to spend a lot of media dollars on television spots or outdoor – like old media. This is something that an advertising agency in Brazil did. This is Ogilvy. And they were tasked with trying to get people to stop drinking and driving.
Instead of doing an ad campaign, or you know, this is alcohol on your brain kind of thing, they actually went out and had a bar fix their register so that when you got your bill it printed out a much larger number. And that much larger number was in association with how much drinking and driving actually costs the state. They did that, and they touched people who actually drink, so they were really targeting their market, but also they did this hidden camera thing that they did online and it's been going viral. Let's watch a little clip. (It shows people being shocked at their bar bill.)
Don't drink and drive, and eat plenty of Sabra hummus. (Ben laughs.) This is Enzo F. Cesario. See you next time.
